Pollution from Motorbikes

Hanoi, Vietnam, with over 1.8 million motorbikes and mopeds, suffers from intense air pollution. The pollution produced by these motorcycles is actually worse than that produced by cars, with more carbon monoxide and smog-induced pollutants emitted due to a less sophisticated engine design. Scooters may have some advantages over cars in terms of size and, by association, fuel efficiency, but the pollution in Hanoi indicates that these factors alone do not make such vehicles a sustainable option. Seamless transport: Making connections

For the upcoming International Transport Forum Annual Summit, which this year has the theme, "Seamless Transport: Making Connections," ICLEI's EcoMobility team has shared a viewpoint on seamless transport and its relevance to EcoMobility. The role of seamless transport in EcoMobility is crucial. If a city can offer a coherent, sustainable seamless transport system, quality of life in the city itself will improve immensely. DHL Resilient Urban Logistics Forum at the ICLEI Resilient Cities 2012 Congress

In conjunction with DHL, this year’s Resilient Cities congress presents a leading forum on Resilient Urban Logistics. On Monday 14th May a one day dialogue will be created around the link between urbanization and urban logistics and its importance for the resilience of cities and climate change adaptation. Join us for cutting edge discussions and actively take part with a special one off daily fee of €150 available for those only attending this forum.

A panel discussion on the crucial role of sustainable logistics in the development and planning of resilient cities will launch the day, followed by a series of case studies from cities around the world, exploring resilient logistics on the ground and what that means for cities. An interactive workshop will be run encouraging active participation from attendees to develop a progressive road map incorporating discussions centered on planning, eco-mobility, climate change, and financing for Resilient Urban Logistics. Later, an evening event will be hosted by DHL and partners as an opportunity for networking and further discussions.
